Which GCSE subjects are mandatory in England?

In England, every student must take English Language, English Literature, Maths, and Science.

These subjects build the foundations for the rest of your studies, no matter what you want to do next.

These GCSEs are non-negotiable. Knowing exactly what’s required can make your revision feel a whole lot simpler.

When it comes to Science, your school will put you on one of two pathways:

  • Combined Science (Double Award):

You’ll study Biology, Chemistry and Physics and receive two GCSE grades.

  • Triple Science (Separate Sciences):

Three individual GCSEs, one each for Biology, Chemistry and Physics. This route covers topics in more detail. It is often chosen by students interested in STEM subjects.

No matter which path you’re on, you’ll cover all the topics you need to know for your exam. Atom can help you revise each topic, stay organised, and track your progress as you go.
