How are predicted grades calculated?
What are predicted grades?
Predicted grades estimate the GCSE grade you are likely to achieve in each subject, based on your performance in recent practice and past papers.
For each subject, your predicted grade is the average of the 3 most recent papers you’ve completed in that subject.
Predicted grades are useful because they:
-
Give you a clear snapshot of your current performance.
-
Highlight subjects that may need extra attention.
-
Encourage reflection after completing papers to help focus your revision.
How are grades assigned to each paper?
When a GCSE paper is marked, your percentage score is converted into a predicted GCSE grade.
Here’s how it works:
-
Your percentage score is mapped to a GCSE grade using real exam board grade boundaries.
-
For past papers, we use the official boundaries published for that specific paper.
-
For practice papers we’ve created, we use an average of the grade boundaries from the past paper counterparts.
This ensures your predicted grades reflect both your current ability and the standards of real exams.
